My Ultimate Guide to Plus-Size Bed Upgrades

Picture this scene, if you will.  A brand new bed, nicely made up, with an inaugural sleep on it.  I climb in and enjoy the luxury of clean sheets, a nice solid base, a super comfy mattress, and a soft, perfectly formed pillow.  As I turn in the bed, getting comfortable, I hear a loud cracking noise.  I considered ignoring it but quickly decided I’d better check before I fell asleep.  Imagine my distress when I realized my brand-new bed frame had a split leg.

Here are my upgrades, several of which were made right away:

First, a new, solid bed frame  This beauty has a maximum weight capacity of 3500 pounds.  There is no way this one will not hold my tossing and turning.  I also love that it doesn’t make noise when you’re on the bed, has a large space under the bed for storage, and has metal support bars so there is no fear of your mattress falling due to the slats moving. This is an easy-to-assemble metal frame for very little money.  A definite win if you’re looking for a bed, for any size mattress.  I rate this bed frame 100% in my product evaluation.

Another really nice feature on a bed is a zippered mattress cover.  Between the threat of bedbugs (we travel a lot, so you just never know), and guaranteeing that your mattress is fully protected from any spills/ leaks/ illnesses or whatever, a strong, fully encasing cover that is not made of hot plastic is a real find. It’s waterproof, quiet, and also relieves allergies.  I had looked extensively for a mattress cover that met all my needs and was thrilled to find this one.  It’s a tad pricey, but again, it has everything I wanted.  You do have to finagle it on your entire mattress, so I took off a couple of points for the ease of getting it on, but otherwise, it’s exactly what I wanted.  This mattress cover got a 96.25% on my evaluation.

My husband and I have a king-sized bed.  I tend to toss and turn, and he is always cold.  We spent a lot of time pulling the top sheet back to our side during the night.  Finding the Alaskan King top sheet was wonderful!  We no longer have to fight it out at night, and each of us is comfortable and well-covered. Made of 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton, this sheet lives up to the softness and silkiness it advertises.  Our mattress is about 80” x 80”.  A little extra length was also desired, as we’re both tall and like the idea of staying covered during the night.  We chose the Alaskan King size, which gives us extra room to tuck the bottom in, and keeps us both covered during the night. There are seven size options as well as 18 color choices. I found this sheet a little pricey, so I took off a point for that, but otherwise, it scored 98.75%
